about

The second part of the Anchor story. In Pt. II, our narrator has been sentenced to drown after outliving his usefulness to the authoritarian government for which he works. Surrounded by other individuals who suffered the same fate in the grave around him, he passes out as the floor breaks beneath the water, and all trapped in the grave are swept away. The narrator awakes at the end of a sewer, surrounded by pollution and by birds used for surveillance by the government. With his lungs waterlogged and his back bleeding from his attachment to the floor in his previous location, he passes out as he watches unfamiliar figures approach. Waking up once more, the narrator finds that he's pierced by hundreds of needles, connecting him to machines that he doesn't understand as he's reassured by one of his rescuers.

lyrics

The hooks in my back tempt my spine to curve toward a sinking floor, my remains ushered into the saturated Earth.

I find myself looking up at the obsolete overhead; featureless as ever, unfamiliar to the end.

Consciousness fails me as the ground and my will give way in succession. Downward come the waves darkened with the flesh of my predecessors.

The peace I've sought in death is pulled from me as I leave.

Where have I come from? What will I become?

I awake spilled in the shadow of an unnatural cloud enshrined by the eyes of the ascended. Its pestilence oppresses the skyline, out of sight of the extant. Our sacraments never revealed the outside.

I'm left alone to behold my creation, my purpose, scattered on the ground as I'm forced to be. The chains I've grown to know lay in a heap; the tears in my back banish captive memories.

The air grows thick as I fade, return to sleep.

Breathe in, breathe out.
I’m so happy that you came here.
Breathe in, breathe out.
We’re the same in ways yet unrevealed.
Breathe in, breathe out.
Soon enough you’ll see that there’s nothing to fear.
Breathe in, breathe out.
From us, great power has been concealed.
Breathe in, breathe out.
Before you’re understood, you’ll have to understand.

I’m brought to life under the gaze of forms unlike the others.

Before I can arise, I find I’m pierced at every turn
With all manner of siphoning by and from my core.

"Fellow deceiver, made to drown for the arrogance you displayed;
One whom fortune has favored, you’ll serve your place."
I fail to find the will to answer to the strangers.
